This thesis discusses the developments of conceptually novel and synthetically valuable methods using visible light photocatalysis. All chapters of this thesis are unique in that the topics investigated use photocatalysis as the main tool. The author describes how he, for the first time, merges gold catalysis with visible light photocatalysis in a dual catalytic fashion. These findings have gone onto to inspire the development of various reactions. Another interesting description in the thesis is of a novel trifluoromethylation method, which combines radical addition chemistry with a polar rearrangement to synthesize valuable fluorinated compounds. These results are particularly relevant for the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and materials industry, where the synthesis of fluorinated compounds is becoming increasingly important. Many more important and relevant topics are addressed in this outstanding piece of research which has led to multiple publications in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals.
