This book addresses the gap in knowledge related to the impact of satellite Earth observations (EO) on enhanced societal policies. This publication summarises, for the first time, the current state of work in the field of studies on the socioeconomic impact of satellite EO, and is the result of a workshop bringing together an international advisory board of experts in science, societal policy, and Earth observation.
The book also reviews the Policy and Earth Observation Innovation Cycle (PEOIC) project, which aims to assess the impact of satellite observations on environmental policy and use this information to propose a mission that would achieve an "innovation cycle". The assessment from such a mission would feed back to innovations in next-generation observation technology, thus contributing to global policy demand for information.
