As a painter with an almost dissecting gaze, Otto Dix became a ruthless chronicler of his time, which was marked by the fall of the German Empire, the horrors of the First World War and the euphoria of the 1920s of the Weimar Republic, which ultimately ended in National Socialism. His shocking images of war and the grotesque depictions of the social conditions of the era make him one of the greatest artists of his time.
