Kelsey Brookes book Psychedelic Space embodies the current work of this fascinating artist perfectly. His first monograph features varied papers, printing techniques, and even a booklet bound within, and homage to Brookes non-traditional artistic journey. Originally trained as biochemist, Brookes initially favored figurative forms when he first veered into his art career. Over time his paintings became ever more vibrant and abstract. Psychedelic Space is concerned exclusively with documenting Kelseys more recent paintings, explosive renderings that are equally plausible as photos of the cosmos or subatomic particles. In this case however, theyve sprung directly from the mind of this evocative artist. Brookes is based in San Diego, California and has most recently shown work with Quint Contemporary in La Jolla and Library Street Collective in Detroit. Psychedelic Space features essays from Hamilton Morris and Richard M. Doyle as well as a Q&A with Kelsey Brookes and Anthony Keidis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
