Umweltkatastrophen, Korruption und politische Unterdrückung bringen Burma regelmäßig in die internationalen Schlagzeilen. Nach dem Tsunami 2004 und dem Zyklon Nargis 2008 hat die Militärjunta internationale Hilfe abgelehnt und die Bevölkerung ihrem Schicksal selbst überlassen. Für Unverständnis in der Internationalen Gemeinschaft sorgte ein wochenlanges Einreise- und Einfuhrverbot. Das Buch behandelt die Grundlagen Humanitärer Hilfe und Positionen von verschiedenen Interessensvertretungen. Dass Humanitäre Hilfe durch westliche Hilfsorganisationen auch schief gehen kann, wird anhand einer Projektanalyse im Flüchtlingslager Mae Ra Ma Luang (Thailand) erarbeitet. Auf ethnologische Erfahrungen sollte bei der Implementierung von Hilfsprojekten nicht verzichtet werden. Die Strukturen der Armut können in Burma nur durch eine neue Politik verändert werden.
