Während Tragwerke in Stahl von vornherein anpassungfähiger sind, mussten entsprechende Möglichkeiten bei Betontragwerken erst geschaffen und entwickelt werden. Das nachträgliche Anbringen äußerer Bewehrung ist ein solches Verfahren. Mit diesem Verfahren ist es möglich, Mängel an bestehenden Konstruktionen zu beheben oder ihre Tragsicherheit und Gebrauchstauglichkeit neuen Einwirkungen - wie erhöhter Nutzlast oder veränderter Art der Beanspruchung - anzupassen.
