This book aims at evaluating Francis Bacon's role in the seventeenth-century universal language movement in England in the framework of the interdisciplinary analysis including such fields as linguistics, history, politics and philosophy. Many a time the role of Francis Bacon has been presented one-sidedly - he has been presented either as a reformer of science or the Lord Chancellor and the mediator between James I and the House of Commons at the Jacobean court.
