This book focuses on strategies to manage disasters in Asian countries. Given dynamic changes in the natural environment as well as the patterns of land use and management, the increase in population in the developing nations in Asia, migration patterns, and other social-cultural aspects, the impact of disasters has increased manifold in Asian countries. Keeping this in view, the book covers the following main themes: (i) strategies to address risk reduction and disaster management; (ii) strategies to mitigate the impact of disasters, including public education regarding disaster management, and support for the disabled; (iii) strategies to manage post-disaster recovery and reconstruction. This interdisciplinary book includes research on governance, environment, disaster management, disability issues, and also covers related issues, such as preparedness for disasters, post-disaster reconstruction, etc. It also takes account of views from different groups of stakeholders, including the army, in search of comprehensive findings and best practices in pre- and post-disaster management.
