This book is about how families make end-of-life decisions and is a product of research conducted by the author in Jerusalem. The author recounts and analyzes six cases presenting various scenarios that families face when forced to make end-of-life decisions. The description of these cases is based on in-depth interviews with individuals who were dealing with or had recently dealt with a dying relative. The cases provide insight into what families and patients go through when having to deal with death. The legal, medical, ethical and cultural issues that arise from these cases are discussed. The author discusses universal themes and at the same time helps the reader to understand what is unique about Israeli culture, and why the extraordinary mixture of cultures that is Israel, proved to be an ideal setting to address these issues. Six Lives in Jerusalem is of interest to medical personnel and researchers, anthropologists, lawyers and legal academics.
