Red Blood Cells

Blood 'Red Gold' is a lifesaving liquid organ. The unique red blood cells (RBCs) are produced by a process called erythropoiesis that takes around 8 days and circulate for 120 days. In modern science, the RBCs life span was reported only 100 years ago. Two Nobel prizes were awarded for studies on RBCs; the first '1930' for discovering the ABO blood groups and the second '2003' for detecting the mysterious RBCs water channels. More than 1400 years ago, the Holy Qur'an mentioned that a period of 4 lunar months and 10 nights (128 days) are mandatory for widows to wait before restarting a new healthier life.
