Even though dyslexia is the most common kind oflearning disability, after a century of study, thereis still no agreement on the definition, subtypes, and characteristics. Researchers speculate thatanomalies of asymmetry in language areas in thebrain may be related to disruption in thedevelopment of the brain and, thus, may contributeto language processing disorders, includingdyslexia. This study investigated cognitive, behavioral and anatomic correlations of dyslexiausing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) toinvestigate six gross lobar regions. Resultsindicated 11% larger prefrontal lobes in Dyslexicsthan Controls. Additionally, the broad groups ofControls and Dyslexics were categorized into fivesubgroups. Although small, these subgroupsdemonstrated significant differences on everycognitive and behavioral measure. This offers newdirections for future research using subtypes whichmay be more revealing and explain earlierinconsistent findings. This research is of interestto educational and scientific researchers who areinvestigating cognitive, behavioral and/oranatomical correlates of dyslexia.
