This book is devised to evaluate neo-Victorian novel that has a new awareness about the distinction and/or discrepancy between the real past and the historical facts produced out of them. This draws the attention towards new approaches to history writing such as apocryphal history, which presents alternative versions of the past. With these contemporary developments in historiography, the evaluation of the historical novel is changed and the fictionality of history is no longer considered being immune to fictionality. Neo-Victorian fiction finds new opportunities in alternative representations of the past by reinforcing "faction." With this new insight, neo-Victorian fiction through its marginalised protagonists and depiction of the unseen lives of improper Victorians, aims at filling the gaps left by conventional Victorian novels and historiographic texts.
