Lawrence McCrank deals here with the processes and consequences of the Christian reconquests in Spain during the 12th century, focusing on the "New Catalona" then being won back from the Muslims. The history of this region, he argues, can usefully be analyzed in the terms of the concepts of frontier historigraphy; and this frontier context gave the institutions and organizations that emerged distinctive and persistant characteristics. In particular these studies look at the role of Poblet and Santa Creuse as colonial agents fostering the resettlement and reorganization of the frontier.
