Mathematical Models of Failing Heart

Sudden Cardiac Death due to Heart Failure remains a§leading cause of death in the Western world. This§book is part of a long-term effort in studying the§function of healthy and diseased hearts such that§effective treatment and preventive measures can be§developed. §Mathematical modeling of Heart is a very intensive§process, both in terms of memory and computational§load. Biophysically and anatomically detailed models §along with the ever-increasing need to simulate §larger tissues for longer periods of time require §the use of High Performance Computing techniques. §This book presents a complete parallel computing §system for the simulation of electrical propagation §in a cardiac tissue. We expect that the mathematical §models presented in this book can be be used in §conjunction with experiments to test hypotheses by §which arrhythmias may arise during Heart Failure.§This book is meant to be accessible to graduate§students, researchers, and teachers in computational§biology, biophysics, electrical engineering, computer§science and other related disciplines.
