This book aims to restore Marx's original emancipatory idea of socialism, conceived as an Association of free individuals centered on working people's self- emancipation, after the demise of capitalism. "Marxism" here signifies Marx as deformed by his epigones. As the author argues, Marx's socialism has been unbelievably subverted in the habitual representation of socialism, associated with the so-called socialist regimes of the twentieth century in the form of Party-States. Chattopadhyay revitalizes the original emancipatory idea from the oblivion to which the Party-States have consigned it. While in capitalism workers are separated from the conditions of production and dominated by them, in the Association both are reunited and turns the earlier false community into a true community.
