Filipinos overseas constitute a diaspora, more than eight million people living and working in almost every country in the world. This phenomenon will continue and increase. What forces propel this movement? What is its direction and strength? What challenges and opportunities face Filipinos overseas? What are the implications on the countries where they work and settle? What is the impact on the Philippines as a nation and as a society? This book seeks answers to these critical questions. Through research and stories, the project aims to provide a better understanding of contemporary Filipino labor migration. The compelling stories feature Filipino workers who reveal their lives and dreams in locations such as London and San Francisco. The analysis is based on theoretical frameworks by philosophers including Gadamer, Habermas, and Ricoeur, and should help shed light on this important economic, social, political and cultural occurrence. For the author, it is a personal journey of discovery she wishes to share.
