The time is right for a Space Corps. According to Harter, this may be an unpopular statement, but it is irrefutable, based on the historical precedent of the creation of separate and distinct land, sea, and air services. Research indicates a separate space [force] is the eventual and necessary path of US space power.1 Although Harter argues for a separated space force, a more practical step in the evolution of space power is the development of a Space Corps within an existing service. Since the Air Force owns and operates the preponderance of space assets, one may reason the development of a Space Corps within the US Air Force is the next logical step. The thesis of the research is now is the time for a semi-independent Space Corps within the US Air Force.
