Comparing Postcolonial Literatures brings together a range of critics working in the Hispanic and Francophone as well as Anglophone postcolonial regions, in order to investigate and interrogate some of the commonly accepted cultural, linguistic and geographical boundaries that have previously informed postcolonial studies. The book aims, in particular, to reconsider the role of the British Isles in this field, and to bridge the gap between postcolonial literatures in English and those written in other languages. The essays in this stimulating and wide-ranging collection include cross-cultural studies from areas as diverse as Africa, Ireland and Latin America, analyses of specific texts as sites of border conflict and revisions of postcolonial theoretical frameworks. A timely questioning of the categories of a critical field at the point when it is becoming increasingly comparative, this volume seeks to suggest more dynamic ways of working in postcolonial cultural studies.
