The use of electrochemical energy storage systems in automotive applications also involves new requirements for modeling these systems, especially in terms of model depth and model quality. Currently, mainly simple application-oriented models are used to describe the physical behavior of batteries (i.e. current, voltage- and temperature characteristics). These simple models typically show weak reliability and poor quality for real-live chemical processes in battery technology. New approaches for proper and detailed modeling of processes within the battery cell are required to achieve an efficient and safe implementation of battery technology in modern vehicles. The book provides an overview of possible approaches to model electrochemical energy storage systems in automotive industry and depict their further enhancements.
