Clinicians are increasingly required to use information andcommunications technology to manage patients and records.Understanding the variables that influence clinician adoption anduse of technology is an ongoing challenge and important requirementfor successful implementation of information systems. This researchapplied theories from the broader literature on informationtechnology, and specifically, the Unified Theory of Acceptance andUse of Technology (UTAUT)developed by Venkatesh, et al. toinvestigate clinician acceptance of a guideline based patientregistry system for chronic disease management in a healthauthority. Action research methodology combining the UTAUTquestionnaire, interviews, and field observations were used todetermine variables influencing clinician adoption.
