Full-color plates reproduce vibrant, dynamic works from the 1930s and '40s by Josef Albers, Willem de Kooning, Burgoyne Diller, Suzy Frelinghuysen, Alexander Calder, and more than 50 other artists.All 162 images are from the J. Donald Nichols Collection, remarkable for its exceptional breadth and diversity. Together, the images recreate the entire American abstract art scene of the '30s and '40s.
