Semiotic Reconstruction of Ryle's Critique of Cartesianism

Kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Theorie wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis des französischen Philosophen, Wissenschaftlers und Mathematikers Rene Descartes. Nach Descartes ist wissenschaftliches Arbeiten strikt vom handwerklichen Können zu trennen: letzteres ist etwas durch körperliche Gewöhnung Entstandenes und daher Kontext-abhängiges, ersteres ist dagegen intellektuell und kontextfrei. Das Buch setzt sich mit dem Erbe dieser Annahme auseinander, insbesondere wie es sich bei der Thematisierung der Tätigkeit des Reflektierens und Philosophierens auswirkt. Ausgehend von der Tatsache, daß jede Repräsentation notwendigerweise selektiv und daher kontextabhängig ist, wird hier argumentiert, daß der Begriff des kontextfreien Wissens inkoherent ist. Die sich daraus ergebenden Konsequenzen für den Begriff der philosophischen Reflexion werden herausgearbeitet. Descartes draws a clear distinction between scientific knowledge and manual skill. The latter is acquired through physical practice and is therefore context-dependent, while the former is intellectual and context-free. The book investigates the heritage of this assumption, in particular with its effects in connection with philosophical and reflective activity. Working from the fact that every representation is necessarily selective, and therefore context-dependent, the argument runs that the concept of context-free knowledge is incoherent. The consequences of this for the concept of philosophical reflection are then developed.
